Presentation Animatic

My sound for my animatic is pretty much final. However, the background music needs to be changed as it isn't royalty free, but I am scouring the internet to find a soundtrack that can give me the same effect.

Final Concepts

These are the concepts for my animation.

The outer membrane is portrayed as an alien planet with a rough texture.

The camera is always looking though the eyes of the character, who is unknown, giving the illusion that the audience is immersed in the film.

The Endoplasmic Reticulum is shown as the planet's highway system, mimicking the transport for the cell.

The Mitochondria in my mind was shown as the Power Plant for the planet. I found inspiration from Spider-Man 2, where Doc Ock acheives cold fusion, and I liked the idea of a ball of energy suspeneded in air.

For this image I got inspiration from the center of the city of Zion in The Matrix, I liked the dome shape and how there was a central piece.

I altered the image to show the Nucleolus inside.

Idea Re-Thought

Since I kind of went off the rails with my Idea, I didn't really stick to the brief, I've decided to keep it simpler and look at the structure of a Eukaryotic cell. I'm still keeping to the sci-fi element and I've had the idea of showing the cell elements within a planets crust, the crust being the membrane, and the core being the nucleus. I will then add the different parts of the cell, like the ribosomes, the nucleolus and the chromatin.

Although there are only a few similar comparisons I can still have the interior of the cell inside. The planet will just be the main visual to make it more satisfying, visually.

This image is good because when the the outer sphere can compare to the outer nucleus while the inner sphere can be the nucleolus.

Cancer Cells

Keeping my invasion in mind, I'm starting to like the idea of showing how a cancer cell takes over a healthy T-Cell. I think visually this can work in the way that the Cancer cell latches onto a T-cell and turns it from a helper cell, which helps the anti-bodies fight off the infection by killing cancer cells, and turns it into a killer cell, which inverts its function into killing healthy cells produced by the body instead.

The way I can personify this is through an asteroid/meteor crash, and then tentacles engulfing the planet, spreading and metastasizing to other parts of the body as it turns the healthy cells into killer cells.

For this project I really wanna to go outside my comfort zone and expand the way I think. I've gone in the direction of doing a virus (Prokaryotic, not sure which at this point) and how it eventually attacks and kills off healthy human cells (Eukaryotic). To make it interesting, I want to make all the cells like their own planets, futuristic with epic features. Im thinking of have a connection with space, having the healthy cell as a planet and the virus as an infected meteor or asteroid that collides and how it takes over.

I will start by showing how the "planet" is formed by the body but personified through spacial objects.

The different locations within the planet would be the different elements of the cell, for example the "Capital" of the planet would be the nucleus, the planets crust would be the membrane, and the central highway would be the cytoskeletal structure.

For the actual style I want it to be quite a dark and serious to get away from the comedy that I'm used to. I want to go in the direction of realistic looking concepts and make the cells and viruses look monumental in scale rather than most of the scientific videos that are out there that still personify them as being small.

Quick Idea

While I was researching I came across this image which reminded me of a world within the cell. I got me thinking, I already knew i wanted to do the structure of the cell, I could portray the inner workings of the cell as a planetary object and show the inner elements, such as the nucleus, the membrane, and the centrioles as different landmarks, or location within.

Another thought I had would be to show how the Prokayrote would interact with the this cell and the repercussions of this.
